Year 1 Graded Unit
For our first year at City of Glasgow College, we were required to produce a 2D animation with the prompt "Going Gone", which to me inspired melancholy imagery, and I decided to theme my animation around a lost Child's toy, However, I also wanted to avoid anthropomorphising the object. The development of the project required reference photos, which I then used as a model of the stage. I took the storyboards and sketches and used them to produce vector art in Adobe Illustrator, from these Backgrounds I then produced Colour tests in an attempt to find a palate which matched the melancholy tone I wished to establish.
I finally settled on a desaturated dark purple for the buildings, a faint crimson for the wood boards, and light and dark values of desaturated blue for the path, stairs and sky.
I then produced animation tests in After Effects, which is where I intended to produce the final animation. The tests experimented with rain effects, deciding on the fall rate, the way the rain would disperse, and the colour or tone of the rain drops. I then combined the rain effect with the backgrounds and overlaid it on top of the after-effects animation, for which I manipulated the parameters of the animation object to create an impression of movement, the object being a simple ball.
