ECA year 3
A mind map of DC Thompson Characters I considered working with, ranging from Minnie the Minx and Biffo the Bear to Ball Boy and Freddie Fear. (Week 1 - 21st September - 2020)
Background research I investigated into after narrowing down my choices to characters Freddie Fear and Ethel Red, eventually settling on Ethel Red, including questions for myself to consider whilst working on the project. (Week 1- 21st to 27th September - 2020)
2 of 2 Storyboards showing the Vikings leaving Wales and Ethel's Grandmother looking on, seeing a seagull flying off into the sunset. This will then lead into the third act of Ethel's voyage in the storm, where she sees a seagull in the distance, and realizes she is near land. (Week 4 - 5th -11th October)

All work produced for Animation For Clients during my time as a third year at ECA.
Rough Sketches and Thumbnails produced for Week 1 of Animating Stories, wherein we were asked to adapt a classic story about a hunter washing up on an island owned by another hunter, and then becoming his prey. I attempted to highlight how my own impressions of the characters changed and evolved throughout the story, as the main character started off more akin to a Disney villain caricature, yet evolved to more of a Vincent Price Character.
For Week 2 of Animating Stories we were tasked to visually adapt a piece of music, I chose Winchester Cathedral, and chose to focus on an animated line, which would rise and sink in accordance with the pitch of a beat or vibration of the track, and respond literally and figuratively to the lyrics, such as when the singer sings of Winchester Cathedral itself "Bringing him down", and showing 2 lines intertwining and dancing with each other, then one being left alone.
For Week 4, our theme was memory, We had to recall a certain memory and attempt to visualize it. My memory was of when I was in Highschool and myself and a group of friends were taken to a screening of the first Hobbit film, which I was enthralled by upon first watching with these friends, yet since then, I have found it underwhelming.
